Our school uses Accelerated Reader from Primary 3 to Primary 7.
Accelerated Reader is a digital program that helps our P3-P7 learners and teachers manage and monitor independent reading practice.
Students pick a book at their own level and read it at their own pace. Each class reads for 20 minutes a day. When learners finish the book, they take a short quiz on the computer to check their understanding. The program allows for them to engage in differentiated learning and track their own progress throughout the year. Vocabulary, fluency and understanding is improved.
As learners read and take quizzes, they earn points and track their progress toward their individualised Accelerated Reader goals. The visual and audio options support accessibility for our learners with additional support needs. Learners are motivated to read more because of the the quizzes and the instant feedback they receive.
Teachers and learners engage in learner conversations, supporting their reading engagement and setting goals each term.
